CEO’s Note – March

How I Survived Women’s History Month (Barely)

Every year, March rolls around, and I gear up for Women’s History Month like a warrior preparing for battle. Not because I don’t support it—oh, I absolutely do! Ada Lovelace The world’s first computer programmer was developed by Ada Lovelace. She basically is the grandmother of coding! Tu Youyou discovered artemisinin, a drug that has saved millions of lives from malaria. The NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson whose calculations helped launch the first U.S. astronaut into orbit. Without her, space travel might have taken a different course! But because every single woman in my life suddenly remembers every single thing I forgot to do last year.

March 1st: My wife asks me – “Do you know what today is?”

Me (googling): “Umm… rent is due?”

Wife: “No! Women’s History Month. A great time to appreciate the women in your life. Just saying.”

I tell myself I’ll do something special. But life happens, and suddenly, it’s March 8th—International Women’s Day.

I rushed to buy flowers for my wife. The only ones left at the store are so wilted that they look like they’ve already given up on men altogether. I grab them anyway.

“These are for you!” I say proudly.

She looks at them, then at me. “Wow. Did you pick these from the trash?”

Okay, not a great start.

Then comes the office celebration. I want to be supportive, but last year, I nearly made the mistake of saying, “Happy Women’s Day, ladies! You all deserve a break today!”

And then suddenly I realized what Groupsoft’s end clients would do to me – “Wow, Arjun ! One day? How generous…..and that also on our Tab !!”

By mid-March, I started seeing social media posts about iconic women in history—Marie Curie, Rosa Parks, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Indira Gandhi, Margaret Thatcher. Meanwhile, I’m just trying to make it through dinner without forgetting my wife’s best friend’s birthday (spoiler: I forgot).

As March end approaches, I breathe a sigh of relief. I did my best—I supported, I listened, I even read an article on feminism (okay, I skimmed it, but the effort counts, right?).

Then just earlier today, my sister called.

“Hey, April is coming up.”

“Yeah?”

“You know what April is?”

I hesitate. “Um… rent is due?”

Silence. Then—

“National Sibling Day is April 10th. And you still owe me for last year.”

Great. Here we go again !!!!😥

Moral of the story? Every day is Women’s Day if you value your life. 🤪🤪

But on a serious note, the world would still be in a dark space if it had not been for the contributions made by women in the fields of Science & Technology, Politics & Leadership, Sports & Entertainment, Literature & Arts besides others.
