Editor’s Note
Independence Day is always a time for me personally to reflect, be appreciative of the ability to apply choices, and be able to walk a self directed path.
Coming from a generation that was free of foreign rulers but born into a patriarchal legacy where life choices were still dependent on the males of the family, I have the fortune to say that I am one of those few blessed who was able to build a life where I enjoy a sense of true independence. My early experiences, however, have left me in no shadows to know how regressive it can be when you live as per the will of others.
I am careful to not forget that what I enjoy is a privilege that not everybody in this world can claim and, I ensure I pass this gift to the younger generations, whether it is my children or the professionals I have the opportunity to work with. I urge all of you to use this independence wisely and judiciously. Do not take for granted what many have spent a lifetime to earn for you.
Enjoy this freedom, be grateful for it and use it to make things better. Jai Hind!
